The Electric Arc phenomenon is one of the most dangerous accidents in Low and Medium Voltage, and can have fatal consequences. Its analysis will allow knowing the risks of burns and electrocution, as well as the required Personal Protection Equipment.

The economic consequences are often significant. Direct equipment damage is only a fraction of the total costs. Indirect costs due to prolonged process interruption can be quite substantial.

Over current protection is not enough. The arc flash protection relay is the fastest solution.

The AQ 100 system is compatible with arc flash systems with a wide range of applications. The system can be from a single unit to a configuration with hundreds of units. The different sensors available support various ways of building a protection system: only use point sensors, use only fiber sensors, or use a combination.

The system always runs fast, and by adding a resettable shutdown device (AQ-1000 or SIQuench 3AM4132/4143) the total arc time can be reduced to less than 5ms. When an electrical arc occurs, the source of the arc fault is removed and power returns within minutes or even seconds. The quenching device can repeatedly take arc faults up to 100 kA, reducing arc exposure to less than 1 cal/cm2.
